Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Ministry on Tuesday condemned a Houthi drone attack that killed two Bahraini military personnel near its southern border with Yemen.
The ministry stressed its solidarity with Bahrain and reiterated its call for cutting off the supply of weapons to the Houthi militia in order to prevent it from violating United Nations resolutions.
Yemen has been mired in a civil war since late 2014 when the Iran-backed Houthi group seized control of several northern provinces and forced the Saudi-backed Yemeni government out of the capital Sanaa.
Since March 2015, Saudi Arabia has been leading an Arab military coalition to support the Yemeni government forces in confronting the Houthi group.
The Houthi attack on Monday also injured several other officers of the Bahrain Defense Force.
Spokesperson for the Saudi-led military coalition Turki Al Malki said the recent attack was one of the many launched during the past month, which also include an attack on an electrical power distribution station and a police station in the border region.
He said the coalition’s joint forces reserve the right to respond at the appropriate time and place.
The latest attack took place only days after a Houthi delegation attended talks with Saudi Arabia amid efforts to negotiate a permanent ceasefire to end the long-running war in Yemen.
